Cell-Unit of life

Cytology:- The study of cell and it's component under the microscope is know as cytology. It deals with the structure only.

Cell Biology:- The study of cell and the function of it's different component is known as cell biology.

       Who discovered cell:-             Robert Hooke
       Who wrote Micrographia:-     Robert Hooke
Who discovered Living cell:-  Von Leeuwenhoek

Commercial 'cork' is obtained from Quericus Suber. It's structure is like Honey comb. The first cell discovered by Robert Hooke was cork cell. It was discovered in 1665.

Magnified structure of cork cell.

Von Leeuwenhoek in 1674 observed living cell in rain water contained injar. Bacterial cell was present in rain water. So the cell was protoplasmic, non intact.

*  Definition of some basics:-
#  Protoplasm- All the components present inside the cell membrane.
#  Protoplast-   Protoplasm + Cell membrane.
#  Cytoplasm-  The part of cell between plasma membrane and nucleus.
#  Cytosol-      The fluidal part of cytoplsam is called cytosol.

Protoplasm:-
* Term was proposed by J.E. Purkinje.
* Corti Proposed that protoplasm is living.
* Huxley called protoplasm physical basis of life.

Nature of protoplasm:-
# Colourless
# Odourless
# Tramsparent
# Colloidal
# Elastic

:-  Two main states of protoplasm.
Sol and Gel. They are interchanging and are called physio chemical process.

Cyclosis- The movement of protoplasm inside the cell membrane is called cyclosis.
               Importance of cyclosis:-
      # Food vacuole moves which distributes the nutrient.
      # Cell organelles move from one place to other which helps in formation of Pseudopodia.

   # Composition of Protoplasm.
Water             80%
Protein           10-15%
Lipid               2-3%
Carbohydrate 2-3%
DNA+RNA   2%
Mineral element- Trace amount.
